It’s taken me a while to write this review. It always does. I feel like I need a while to gather my thoughts. I am loving this series and I’m so sad that it has taken me this long to read it.
I really love this world that Schwab has created. The different London’s and the magic. I think there’s a big awakening of magic that starts to happen in this book. One thing that I really appreciate is that this story is not revolved around a love story. In fact, it’s more about the world, magic, characters than love. Don’t get me wrong, there are hints to romances but it’s not the main focus. It’s refreshing when you know it’s there but it’s not all that’s talked about!
This book was a lot of lead up to the next book. We do get some more world building and each character grows in this book. I love the new additions too. The main plot is really about this tournament that is going on. You get to see more of the world and new people. Basically, people are just fighting each other with magic.
The Captain is awesome and I love him so much. I knew from the minute he was introduced that I was really going to like him. He had so much mystery but I’m glad we got to know some of it in this book. Most of his crew is pretty awesome too. No wonder that Lila really fit in with them!
My favorite characters are still Kell and Lila. I actually love them together and I’m hoping that they end up together. There is a lot of tension there! Kell is still trying to figure out his place. I really feel for him. He’s got so much love for Rhy and they have a brotherly bond. Yet, the family (besides Rhy) still treat him like he’s working for them. It’s like he’s part of the family only when they want him to be. Poor guy! He’s trying so hard to save everyone and takes on the world. No wonder, he is always brooding!
Lila has become even more awesome in this book. Her magic is really starting to take off and I cannot wait to see what she is cable of! I loved her trickery and thieving when she was part of the ship crew. I was a bit worried about her taking a spot in the tournament. I didn’t know how she could get away with winning that one.
Guys, there’s a huge cliff hanger and it was awesome ONLY because I was able to jump right into the next book a few days later. haha. It was quite the cliffhanger though!
This was a good second book but I’m currently reading the third book and there’s a lot more action. I can’t wait to see how this series finishes. It’s been a great ride so far! I’ve been doing this whole series as a buddy read with Brittany @ Perfectly Tolerable. It has been such fun and it’s always great to discuss books! Even better when it’s as soon as things happen! I linked her review so you can go read it! Check it out!
