Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1)

Five Stars!

I had the pleasure of doing a buddy read with Lily @ Sprinkles of Dreams! Thank you, for doing this with me! ❤ This was a re-read for her and the first time for me! Both loved it though!

Wow. This book was so good. I had a hard time not finishing this book in one sitting. This is a decent size read but it did not feel like that at all. I was so immersed in the story that I didn’t once feel board or like it was too long. The writing in this book is spectacular. There are so many beautiful phrases and thoughts. The world building is just fantastic too. Even from the beginning, I was just sucked into this world. For example, this quote. How could you not want to know after that?

“They would say she hadn’t shed blood but wept it. That she was lewd, tonguing her teeth at them, upside down and dying, that she vomited a serpent that turned to smoke when it hit the ground. They would say a flock of moths came, frantic, and tried to lift her away. That was true. Only that.”

The characters in this book are just fantastic. Lazlo is probably one of the nicest, self-less, optimistic characters that I’ve read in a long time. He is just so good that some people wonder what game he is playing. That’s just it, he’s not. He’s genuinely a caring and good person. Then we have Sarai, who is struggling with who she is. She has done some bad things but wants to be good. She wants to find another way to co-exist. I am SO glad that we got her POV from the “other side.” I’m trying not to spoil anything here. There are several characters in this book who are struggling/flawed. So many people can relate to pieces of these characters.

There’s also some important messages in this book too. Don’t judge people by the color of their skin, and don’t blame people for their ancestors. Things can change. Keeping an open mind is important, and that’s something that every single person can relate to.

I really cannot wait to read Muse of Nightmares. I’m excited and a little bit terrified. This is my first Laini Taylor book and now I want to read them all. Okay, I’m done. This was just a mess because this book has scrambled my mind- in a good way! 🙂
