Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow and Bone (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy, #1)

3 stars

I’m glad that I finally picked up this book. It’s been on my TBR forever. I know there’s a lot of mixed reviews on this one. Unfortunately, I’m on the latter end… it was interesting but definitely not a favorite.

I think one of my biggest issues with this book was the world building. I feel like there were things I would have loved more details about. It felt a little bland to me. Nothing really seems to happen in this book! I kept waiting for things to get going and it never really happened.

I also wasn’t the biggest fan of Alina. I know, I know! I was hoping to love her character but I just couldn’t really connect with her very well. It could have something to do with the fact that she’s obsessed with her looks. Come on.. it has nothing to do with your power.

The most intriguing character for me was The Darkling! I really need to know a lot more about him! I’m hoping to learn more about him in the second book.

Overall, this was just okay. I liked the book but you can tell its Bardugo’s first series. It’s not the best written book and it does have it’s issues. Hoping that book two is an improvement!

  1. I recently finished Shadow and Bone and actually really liked this book. This is my first ever Leigh Bardugo read and it made me a little nostalgic. For some reason, it took me back to high school and brought back memories of reading The Hunger Games and Divergent. Weird, I know, considering those books are a completely different genre. Guess the writing has some similarities? But I’m excited to pick up the next book soon!
