Monstress v. 1-4 by Marjorie M. Liu

Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening

Well my world into graphic novels are expanding! I don’t even know where I saw this but it looked interesting. I purchased the first one because my library closed and I had only had volumes 2-4 available.

I’m going to just do an overall review of the volumes I have read. These are short books, like most graphic novels and I don’t feel like I want to review each one separately.

This is a dark fantasy. I mean, it is really dark. It’s got some gore, which I’m not really the biggest fan of. I kind of just glaze over those parts. There’s so much mystery and this world is huge. Although, you don’t really get a ton of details about it. I have SO many questions!! There’s a lot of monsters and so many people who look human but aren’t. At times, I feel like I have no idea what’s going on. haha.

I love the characters though and I’m so drawn to the story. You get this badass girl who is part monster.. kind of. She has been through hell and she has no idea who she can trust. There’s just so many questions for her and you! Before you know it, you’ve been sucked into the story and it’s over. I loved the little fox. She’s pretty much my favorite and keeps our monstress in check, sometimes.

I really like this graphic novel but it’s a lot darker than I normally would read. The story is really intriguing and I just cannot wait for the next volume. Come on, September!! Hoping that corona virus is gone by then. Crossing fingers. Anyways, if you are looking for another graphic novel, give this one a go.
