Ahhhh, I am SO glad that I finally decided to read this! I had heard that it was really scary and that’s what kept me from it. It’s been raved about all over with the recent final book release. I just went for it and I’m so glad I did.
I absolutely love that this is set in the 1920’s! I was all about the world, the language and the costumes. Although, there was a bit too much costume talk at times. I was all for it!
This book wasn’t quite scary but really spooky. Does that make sense? I guess, I didn’t have nightmares and I didn’t run up the stairs after turning off all the lights. haha. Honestly, I was getting many Supernatural (tv show) vibes *cue the salt!!* and I LOVED that! I think watching all those seasons helped me with the spooky factor in this. I’m so used to demons and evil spirits, all kinds. Also pro tip: always and I mean always carry salt with you. 🙂
We are introduced a several characters in this book and they are amazing! They are from all different backgrounds and have their own interesting stories. Honestly, I wasn’t bored by any of them! I really loved Evie. She’s spunky and from Ohio… hahaha.. I am in Ohio! lol. Anyways, I’ve heard so many good things about the characters in this series and I believe them now! I already love them and can’t wait to know more.
Libba Bray did amazing writing this story! It’s so thought out and so detailed. I was afraid that there would be a lot of boring parts with such a chunky book but nope! I was so immersed into this story and just couldn’t put it down.
One thing that I didn’t enjoy as much were the love stories. I’m a bit confused and I wasn’t quite invested in them. I hope this gets better in the rest of the series.
Overall, I’m really glad that I picked this one up. I liked that it didn’t creep me out too much and the world is so fascinating. It definitely helps that the characters are engaging and interesting too.
