Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1)

I have had this series recommended to me so many times over the past few years. I want to say… I didn’t realize this was a James Patterson presents series… there was my first clue. No offense, if you love JP but working at the library, I learned to really dislike his 500 book releases a month!

Anyways, I’m so sad that I didn’t love this as much as everyone else. First of all, I didn’t realize it was so creepy. I’m not big on creepy books! I really could have done without the photos. It took so long to actually grab my attention and I was bored at times. There were just a lot of slow sections to this one.

Audrey Rose was interesting enough and I get wanting to break the mold and be a feminist. Although, at times I felt like she was trying a little too hard in her mind and not in practice. I was also a bit confused on how she dissects bodies and loves it so much but couldn’t handle the crime scenes. It could be that Maniscalco was really trying to give you how messed up JTR is that even a person who likes to see opened up bodies would get sick. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt on this one. I did keep track of how many times she accused Thomas of being Jack the Ripper.. it was at least 10 times. Yet she was into him… oh boy. I’m not quite sure how I feel about their relationship yet.

I will say that I did have JTR figured out quite early but I am REALLY good at picking up on clues. It’s okay, it was still a fun ride and I did enjoy myself with the mystery aspect.

Overall, I didn’t love this book but I did enjoy parts of it and I will be reading book two. It was an easy read and there are parts that I did enjoy. I own the next book and I feel that I have to give it a shot. I know a lot of people love this series and I’m going to give it another go.

  1. Great review! I’m a librarian, and I have worked in libraries for nearly 10 years. Every time I see James Patterson’s name I get anxious. I still have this one on my tbr though! I love a creepy book.

    • Thank you! hahaha… I think something only Librarians/library workers understand!! I worked at a library that would have about 3,000+ copies on order for each of his books! Shelving books on release days was such a pain!!

  2. Fully agree with everything you’ve said about this one. One of the photos in the book had me SHAKING! Haha I was soo not expecting it and I was reading it with my small light late at night and… It was NOT a jam 🙈 I liked Audrey’s character too but I also found a lot of things a bit suss. Especially how she couldn’t figure out who JTR was…? Even I thought it was really obvious and I’m usually pretty bad at deducing whodunit lol

    • YES!!! I wish I would have had a warning about those photos!! I am thinking of one in particular and it’s probably the same one that you are. It should say “warning: photo will give you nightmares, be ware before turning page.” haha! Yeah… I’m going to read the next book because I have heard it is better and I own it. I’m stuck… kinda… lol!
