Review: Becoming by Michelle Obama

I have been wanting to read this for, well forever. I am so glad I finally did. I did do the audio version. I’m glad because it was great since it was narrated by her. I don’t typically do very well with audio-books but this one hooked me in. If you have this on your TBR, please do the audio-book! Having her narrate this helps you really understand how she’s feeling about things.

This is my favorite memoir of ALL time. This was amazing and she is just so inspiring. Can she please be president?! Haha, I know that will never happen after reading this book though. It’s such a shame because she would be so good.

“When they go low, we go high!”

We learn about her entire life, from the very beginning. It was so awesome to get a look in. She’s so candid about her life before and after being, The First Lady. She’s just a normal person wanting to have a normal life, while raising two girls and living in the White House. She knows that it’s a huge deal, a huge honor, and she’s so blessed but at the same time it was hard for her.

She was on a roller coaster ride that she didn’t really want to be on. She was under the spot light and it’s a place she didn’t really want to be. Although, she did it beautifully and made so many great attempts at change. You could really see how much children mean to her and she understands how vital they are to our future.

I’d been lucky to have parents, teachers, and mentors who’d fed me with a consistent, simple message: You matter.

As an adult, I wanted to pass those words to a new generation.

I really enjoyed learning about how she met Barack and how they fell in love. It’s kind of a funny story, really. She is so honest about her marriage and her children. I loved it.

I love how she knew what was about to happen to all of us with the change of presidency. **let’s not talk politics, just stating that I was really impressed with her honesty here**

“We were now up against a bully. I wanted Americans to understand that words matter.”

I know that she’s now trying to find her next chapter. I’m sure whatever she decides to do or focus on will be amazing. She’s never really going to be out of the spotlight and I do feel sorry for her, in that aspect. I hope you find your path. ❤

I loved every minute of this. I found myself turning my audio-book on during dishes, brushing my teeth, nursing Oliver, and various other times. It’s just phenomenal and I urge you to read this if you haven’t. I can’t wait to start her Netflix show about her book tour. I originally planned to do a “mini” review of this book but realized she needed a whole lot more attention!

  1. I loved this book, too, and so admire her! I might have to listen to it, too, although I did watch a documentary on Hulu about her book tour.

I just finished the new Mary Trump book…so good! That subject couldn’t be more at odds with the inspiration we find in Michelle Obama!

    Thanks for sharing.

    • I watched the documentary today! I also enjoyed it but yes, listening to it was amazing! You definitely should!!

I’ve seen she’s made a killing on that book. I am on a really long hold list for that one!
