Review: Fortuna Sworn by K.J. Sutton

Fortuna Sworn (Fortuna Sworn, #1)

I was seeing this pop up lately and I was totally mesmerized by the cover. This was a total cover buy! I then started to see a lot of people talking about it!

I was surprised that I liked this as much as I did! I loved Fortuna so much. She’s such a smart, loyal, funny and strong character. She’s got a one track mind in this book and that’s to do what it takes to find and save her brother. Her sisterly love knows no bounds in this book.

One of the things I really loved about this book was the atmosphere and the world. I do wish that I would have gotten more world building. This is a short book and the pacing is really fast. Since it’s so short there are a lot of areas that we just get a small picture and I would have loved more. For one thing, I need a lot more of Collith’s background. I’m hoping that’s something that comes out later on in the series.

There are some trials that Fortuna has to go through and I will admit, they felt so rushed. I really wanted more out of it. Again, this book really could have been longer and I wouldn’t have been mad. I also wish that she they would have been a bit more difficult than they were. I’m not sure if it’s to make the point that her being a Nightmare, makes them easier but still. She did end up with some horrible things happening outside of these events though.

“Even if you win, you don’t win.”

I have seen so many people talking about how similar this is to ACOTAR and I can see that. Although, I like Fortuna a lot more than I like Feyre. I am really hoping that this isn’t too similar to SJM because I hated Tamlin and if Collith will be getting the same fate, I am going to be so upset!

I read this book so fast and I really can’t wait to read more. I love stories bout the Fae because they are so interesting and cruel. This one did not disappoint in both of those areas. I really wish my library had access to these titles but they do not.
