“People sometimes still drown in the shallow end.”

It has been a while since I’ve picked up a Hoover book. This book reminded me why I love her writing so much.

From the very beginning, I was caught up in the story. I had a hard time putting it down and finished it in one day. Hoover has this brilliant way to write characters. You immediately fall in love with them and root for them. This book was no exception. This was a beautiful and emotional journey for them and me. There are a lot of aspects to this book that are predictable but I was shocked by the twist in the end. You know that something is up but no idea what is.

I loved the setting in this book. I should have waited for the summer to read this because now I just want to be on the beach. I want to rent a house on the beach with an outside shower. haha.

Beyah was a character that will stick with me for a while. It’s so heartbreaking what she went through and how she had to survive alone. It’s also inspiring because she did what she had to do to make it out of the circumstances she was in. I love that Hoover took a book and centered it around kids that slip through the cracks.

Overall, I was swept away with this book. If you are looking for a beautifully written, emotional, and intense book, pick this one up. She does not disappoint and it’s why she has been one of my favorite authors. I cannot wait to dive into more of her books!!

  1. I loved it, too, Leslie, and I came late to the Hoover party. I avoided her books mostly because they seemed to be YA…but then I read some of her adult books. And finally, I realized that the characters made the story, and young or old, they swept me away. Thanks for sharing.

    • Yes, omg. I started out with her years ago and her books are just absolutely amazing. She writes characters like no other. I never pay attention the genre anymore, just pick it up! Although, I am a bit nervous about Layla because that’s totally different for her!

  2. I really want to try more CoHo. I’ve only read two of her books and I really enjoyed both. She definitely has a way of grabbing hold of your emotions and squeezing them 😂 I’m very curious about this one now so I might give it a go in the near future. Great review!

    • Thank you! Yes, you totally should. Her books are so good but can be intense-emotionally. They are also books that you just fly through! I hope that you like this one if you pick it up!! It was such a fast read for me. 🙂

    • I still need to read Regretting You! I have a buddy read set up for later in the year. I’m excited because I’ve seen good things about that one! I think Layla is my next month (buddy read) and I’m so nervous for that one!

  3. Great review! I’ve actually never read anything by Colleen Hoover but I keep seeing her works everywhere! Will definitely have to add this to my TBR!

    • It had been sooo long for me too! I need to catch up because I’m pretty far behind, I think. I remember liking that one but I didn’t write reviews when I read it.. So I just have my star rating to go off of, haha.
