What a lovely surprise. There have been a lot of retellings lately. I wasn’t sure how to feel about this one but the cover finally drew me in. I was lucky enough to get an e-ARC through HarperTeen, thank you! It has not influenced my opinions though! 🙂
This is about a murder. Lizzie works for her dad, doing random things at his law firm. She really wants to be officially hired and become a barrister one day but she’s a woman. It’s not really something that is allowed. One day, her dream job becomes available and decides to take on a murder case to prove her worth. As long as she solves this case they can’t say no, right?!
This was such a fresh take on the classic. There are a lot of twists to make it enticing and intriguing. I will say, the one thing that stayed the same, was that I absolutely hated Lydia. Gosh, she’s terrible and such a brat in all versions.
The pacing is fabulous because I devoured this book so fast. I was trying to hold off a couple weeks but after only 15% I was already hooked and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I’ve always loved Lizzie and she’s just as funny and witty in this book. The fact that she’s awesome at being a detective is even better. I really liked Darcy in this one too. I mean.. he’s still a brooding jerk at first but that’s his norm.
If you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice then I think you will really enjoy this retelling! It’s clever and a fun time. I have learned that it’s the first in a Jane Austen murder mystery series. I need to hurry up and read the other classics! I can’t wait to dive into the next one.
